It may take me a while to get through all of this great stuff coming out this week!
Starting off with a look at this week’s comics, in a week that features three Super-books, amazingly I’m most excited about something else entirely! DC Comics is bringing the Bwa-ha-ha back with the first issue of Blue & Gold, an 8-issue miniseries starring Booster Gold and Blue Beetle! Dan Jurgens, one of my favorite writers, returns to one of his greatest creations in writing Booster Gold, the 25th Century washout who stole a bunch of tech and brought it back to the current era in order to seek fame as a superhero. Booster can be a great character in the right hands (read: not TOM KING). With writing from Jurgens and featuring his best buddy Ted Kord back as Blue Beetle, I’m ridiculously excited about this miniseries.
That’s not to say the Superman content this week isn’t exciting. While I’m not the biggest fan of the direction the publisher has been taking my favorite character, the new Superman and the Authority series is a pretty intriguing one. With Grant Morrison at the helm, and teaming Superman up with one of my favorite Super-villains in MANCHESTER BLACK, it has all the makings of something I’d enjoy. Now, let’s see if they can pull this off.
As always, I’m buying my comics digitally, through Comixology. Most of the week’s new books are listed over at the PreviewsWorld website, though DC Comics’ new releases can be found on their own website. Let’s take a look at what new comics I’ll be reading this week.
Dark Horse Comics
Black Hammer Reborn 2
DC Comics
Blue & Gold 1
The Flash 772
Justice League 65
Nightwing 82
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow 2
Superman and the Authority 1
Superman Red and Blue 5
DC Digital Comics
The Joker Presents: A Puzzlebox 4
Moving past comic books, calendar is jam packed with stuff. I’m still making my way through last week’s geeky goodness, so hopefully my real work life calms down a little bit and lets me enjoy all of my favorite things. I’ll hopefully have reviews of the latest episodes of LEGENDS OF TOMORROW and SUPERMAN & LOIS soon, not to mention my MONEY IN THE BANK rankings! I am really behind.
The Geeky Goodness starts today and extends all the way until the end of July, but we’ll focus on just the next 7 days. Today marks the 15th anniversary of CLERKS II, my favorite of Kevin Smith’s New Jersey flicks, and we revisit the movie today. Also today, Netflix debuts the second season of The Movies That Made Us. The four-episode season will feature Jurassic Park, BACK TO THE FUTURE, Pretty Woman and Forrest Gump.
Moving back to the Kevin Smith side of things, and sticking with Netflix, on Friday we get the first half of Smith’s new MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE: REVELATION, which continues the story of the original 1980s cartoon classic. Also on Friday, the second season of Ted Lasso debuts on Apple TV+. I came to the Ted Lasso party pretty late with season 1, but I got hooked pretty quick. I’m excited to see where the story goes from there.
And, of course, Joe will be back with his latest SONG OF THE WEEK. Also, it’s Joe’s birthday today! Happy birthday, Joe!
What are you looking forward to this week? Talk about it in the comments!
