A smooth R&B love jam.
It’s been a few years since we’ve heard much from Syd. Beyond her work with Odd Future and The Internet, the singer/songwriter released her solo debut in 2017, but has been pretty quiet otherwise in terms of new music. With “Fast Car” though, she’s making a fantastic comeback splash with a lovely and warm jam about the love between her and her girlfriend.
“So kiss me like you mean it, girl/ I’ll turn up the speakers, girl,” Syd sings alluringly, “I got you runnin’ lights/ Shiftin’ these gears of mine.” Each percussive beat is a powerful shot, like hearing your heart beating and blood pulsing in your ears, but the synth line is calm and collected – a mix of serenity and passion. And to close it off? A fantastic Prince-esque guitar solo. It’s an amazing track for anyone falling in love this summer.
