Can you imagine diving into the multiverse and finding a world exactly like ours, only comics come out on Thursdays? That just feels wrong on so many levels. It’s Wednesday, which means it’s New Comic Book Day!

While FUTURE STATE continues through its second month over at DC Comics, there’s a completely different reimagining of a universe that has me excited for our big pick of the week.

Jeff Lemire and Dean Ormston’s BLACK HAMMER, from Dark Horse Comics, is one of my favorite new superhero creations of the last decade. While the main story has ended, the book has spawned a whole new universe at the publisher. And now, we get new interpretations of the story with Black Hammer: Visions, a new ongoing anthology.

The first issue features a story from actor/comedian/comic book geek Patton Oswalt with art from Dean Kotz. It focuses on Golden Gail, the SHAZAM analogue that has grown up but is stuck in the body of a child. We’re set to get stories from other fan favorite writers like Geoff Johns (!) and Mariko Tamaki in the future. Black Hammer: Visions has me pretty excited!

Let’s take a look at what I’ll be reading this week:

Black Hammer: Visions 1
