It’s Wednesday morning, and with all the snow piled up high outside, what better way to spend the day than with some new comic books?
Making my week all the better is a return to one of my favorite 90s properties of all time – Transformers: Beast Wars! The reboot of the 1980s classic cartoon became a classic in its own right, reimagining the battle between the Autobots and Decepticons as a war between the Maximals and Predacons.
Beast Wars is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2021, and we kick off the celebrations with a new comic book from IDW that brings us back to the beginning of the Beast Wars. The Preds, led by a new Megatron, head back in time to Earth with some golden discs and the Maximals, led by Optimus Primal, must follow to stop their nefarious schemes.
Adding to my excitement is the comic’s writer: Erik Burnham, who has helped craft IDW’s GHOSTBUSTERS universe over the last few years! After writing the GHOSTBUSTERS/TRANSFORMERS crossover comic, I can’t wait to see what he does with the Beast Wars!
We are also in Week 5 of DC Comics’ FUTURE STATE initiative. The publisher kicks off its second month with some positive momentum. While it started out disappointingly, the stories have improved greatly in the last two weeks. Although, we do get the second issue of one of the early FUTURE STATE highlights, the future Harley Quinn, written by Stephanie Phillips. I can’t believe how much I’m looking forward to a new Harley Quinn comic.
