Welcome to the first New Comic Book Day of the rest of your lives. It’s 2021, which means we’re going to let old comic book storylines be forgot and never brought to mind.

At least, as soon as they finish. Like this week.

The final issue of DARK NIGHTS: DEATH METAL gives way to not one but two big things this week. The Generations Shattered anthology, which was rumored to lead in to the new Fifth Generation of DC Comics, comes out this week. But so does the start of this two-month glimpse at yet another bleak future for the DC Comics Universe. These bleak futures are always depressing and means that the hope that the heroes are supposed to provide is completely ineffectual.

Oh well. FUTURE STATE kicks off this week with a new Batman, a new Superman, a new Wonder Woman and the Flash family at each others’ throats. So, you know, business as usual for a dark and depressing DCU. I’m interested in seeing what these stories bring to the table and if they’re going to mean anything come March, but I find it hard to believe they won’t all be thrown out with the bath water come next March.

Finally, over at BOOM!, the moment I’ve been waiting months for is finally here. The Buffyverse becomes a Buffy Multiverse! Multiple Buffies! This is an exciting predicament! I think I may be more excited about this turn of events than I am Future State…

Let’s take a look at what I’m getting in this very expensive week:
