My wallet weeps this week, but if you can afford it, there will be a lot of beginnings, endings and continuations to read on this new comic book day!
This is easily the craziest New Comic Book Day I can remember in a long time. It’s so crazy that it brought me back from a little hiatus as I adjusted my life to having a second child and all the insanity that goes along with that.
DC Comics absolutely loaded this week up with some seriously can’t-miss books. We have the final issue of Tom King’s run on BATMAN. We have the final issue of DOOMSDAY CLOCK, timed to coincide with the final episode of the HBO Watchmen miniseries. The final issue of Scott Snyder’s BATMAN: LAST KNIGHT ON EARTH drops today, too. The finale of the Justice/Doom War in JUSTICE LEAGUE also releases this week, which leads into the new YEAR OF THE VILLAIN: HELL ARISEN miniseries.
And there’s so much more that DC is publishing today. I had to decide to drop a few things because there was no way I could justify getting it all.
I can’t help but think this is maybe a mistake, releasing all these huge books at once, one week before Christmas. Thankfully, I’ve already finished my Christmas shopping, so a splurge on some comics won’t keep my kids from getting some presents. But I can’t imagine why DC didn’t shift some releases away from today to try and stave off some serious event fatigue.
