One of Nintendo’s most popular games is racing onto mobile devices in the next year – though we only have a vague idea of when we’ll be able to toss out blue shells and banana peels on our phones.
Earlier today, Nintendo sent out a tweet that should excite fans – Mario Kart, one of the most successful franchises the company has – is coming to mobile systems.
The checkered flag has been raised and the finish line is near. A new mobile application is now in development: Mario Kart Tour! #MarioKartTour Releasing in the fiscal year ending in March 2019. pic.twitter.com/8GIyR7ZM4z

MARIO KART TOUR races in on the heels of the successful SUPER MARIO RUN and ANIMAL CROSSING mobile apps. The mobile game will be the 10th iteration of the game, which first appeared on the Super Nintendo in 1992. The most recent version, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Nintendo Switch sold more than 7.3 million copies by the end of 2017.
Of course, the only details we have on Mario Kart Tour comes from the above tweet, which promises we’ll have it sometime before March 2019, so we possibly have more than a year to contemplate what will be included in the new game. Best guess is that Nintendo will give it a release similar to SUPER MARIO RUN, which debuted in the iOS App Store in December 2016, with a release on Android and Google in March.
