Another week of news has come and gone. Let’s take a look at what’s happened over the last few days.
DC Comics’ new wunderkind, TOM KING, did an interview with Slate’s Working podcast, where he discussed various issues tied to his work for DC, including his run on Batman, which he said he wants to do for 100 issues (issue 30 of his run came out this week). More notably, he discussed a disagreement with his editor, Mark Doyle, just before Doyle left the Bat-books. Doyle is now editing the new Young Animal imprint.
King fought for superstar artist David Finch to draw Batman proposing to Catwoman in Batman 24, but Doyle wanted another – unnamed – artist to draw it instead. King said he put his foot down and got what he wanted. Doyle moved off the book not long after.
You can read my thoughts about Batman 24 and the proposal – we’re still waiting on Selena’s answer, three months later, by the way – right here.
With the new season of AMC’s The Walking Dead starting on Oct. 22, Cartoon Network is jumping on the promotional bandwagon with a Robot Chicken special for the show. The Walking Dead: Look Who’s Walking will hit at midnight on Oct. 8 and features the voice talent of most of the cast of the show. Here’s a trailer:
Vulture published an interesting piece yesterday about the removal of Colin Trevorrow as director of Star Wars Episode IX. The article speculates that Trevorrow was removed because he had a bit too much of an ego and wasn’t listening to his superiors, including Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. The removal comes on the heels of Phil Lord and Chris Miller being axed from the Han Solo origin movie.
From the article:
“There’s one gatekeeper when it comes to Star Wars and it’s Kathleen Kennedy,” says a veteran movie producer, who has worked with the studio chief. “If you rub Kathleen Kennedy the wrong way — in any way — you’re out. You’re done. A lot of these young, new directors want to come in and say, ‘I want to do this. I want to do that.’ A lot of these guys — Lord and Miller, Colin Trevorrow — got very rich, very fast and believed a lot of their own hype. And they don’t want to play by the rules. They want to do shit differently. And Kathleen Kennedy isn’t going to fuck around with that.”
That’s a wrap for today. What are you guys looking forward to this weekend?
