Kicking off the year with a bang!

It’s been quite a while since Radiohead has written an out-and-out rocker. You’d have to go back to 2007’s In Rainbows to find the type of furious energy that the band does so well, but often leaves behind in favor of blowing our minds in other ways. But for Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood, that’s changed with the release of their first single as a new supergroup with Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner, known collectively as The Smile.

“You Will Never Work in Television Again” is a propulsive tune of distorted, scratchy guitars that blitz forward and wash over every inch of the speakers. As Greenwood squeezes every note for all its worth, unleashing chaotic seconds that explode and fade back into the main riff, Yorke sounds more energized than he has in years, unleashing a stream-of-consciousness vocal that’s angry, paranoid, and kinetic all at once. As the first taste of what The Smile has to offer, it’s impossible not to get excited about the prospects of this new project.

“You Will Never Work in Television Again” is out now.
