Spoon brings out their bluesiest stomp.
Is there a more underrated and consistently great band as Spoon? It’s doubtful! For the last two decades, they’ve released a bevy of body-moving albums that all have their own unique styles. Their last album, Hot Thoughts, was organic dance rock, with slicing disco guitars and pulsing synths. Now back with “The Hardest Cut,” they’ve swung in the opposite direction without losing an ounce of energy.
Spoon’s latest single is a propulsive hard rock anthem, built to be the tightest, most fiery 70s tune you’ve never heard. It swaggers and scorches with a deep, fuzzed-out main riff, and a Queens of the Stone age style rhythm that will force everyone to get moving. It’s one of those songs that you’ll add to every party or road trip playlist you make going forward. The video has a touch of thrills for the Halloween season too!
“The Hardest Cut” will appear on Spoon’s next album, Lucifer on the Sofa, out on Feb. 11, 2022 via Matador.
