A dream-pop throwback.

“Superbike,” the latest single by Jay Som, will sound familiar to anyone who grew up loving 90s bands like Mazzy Star. It’s launched by a slice of jangly guitar chords and filled with spacy, swoony atmospherics and echo. Throw in an underrated bass line, a buzzing solo and a quiet interlude and you’ve got the song of the year circa 1993.

One of the most standout elements though is Jay Som’s vocals, with most lyrics arriving in a conversational voice. But the hook is a bright, reverb-heavy call out that repeats “Somebody tell me.” You’ll be singing along by the second time you hear it.

“Superbike” will appear on Jay Som’s sophomore album, Anak Ko, out on August 23.
