A gorgeous, mournful tune.
Some artists have voices that stop you in your tracks and force you to listen. Zsela is one of those artists. With this song, the Brooklyn singer-songwriter has made a powerful opening statement. On her first single, “Noise,” her voice is rich with simmering, soulful passion. Each note drips with emotion and pure vocal skill. You could just picture her in a smoky, dimly-lit lounge, singing her heart out.
The tune matches her melancholy performance, with subtle touches of percussion, piano and strings. It’s the perfect bed for a song about the end of a relationship. Zsela sings, “Cannot count the ways you used to love me/But I can count the ways you used to try.” There’s a sense of regret but also acceptance of finality.
“Noise” is out now.
