A new,wonderful collaboration emerges!
In this corner, we have Karen O, songwriter, producer, fashion icon and lead singer/powerhouse front woman for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. In the other corner, we have Danger Mouse, musician and producer mastermind, known for working with everyone from Gorillaz to The Black Keys to Norah Jones. Now, two of the coolest people in rock have joined forces for a new project. Get excited!
The first song from this fresh project, “Lux Prima,” is nothing like you’d really expect from either artist. Rather, it is a fantastic, trippy, nine-minute prog tune. For the first few minutes of the track, it feels like you’re floating in space, at the halfway point between “The Great Gig in the Sky” and original Star Trek theme. Then the track flips into a jazzy, rhythmic segment, giving Karen O room to sing some more traditional verses. But then, soon enough it floats back up to space, leaving us in the stars once again.
“Lux Prima” is available now on streaming services. On Dec. 14, it will be released as a limited edition 12″ record with an etched B-side exclusively at independent record stores.
