Haley Heynderickx creates beautiful, complex and deeply-poignant folk music.
She only has a handful of songs to her name so far, but each number contains a powerful grace. On the epic, eight-minute “Worth It,” she picks out an enthralling, circular guitar riff and pushes the track forward with her lilting vocal timbre. It starts off gently before gaining steam and power, peaking at a rough-and-tumble rock tune. It ebbs and flows, matching her lyrical exploration of lingering doubts and growing confidence, ending with a shout of “Maybe I’ve been worth it!”
In a year that already seems packed with great tunes, Heynderickx’s debut is one of my most-anticipated releases for this year. I Need to Start a Garden is out on March 2 through Mama Bird Recording Co.
