A new DC Animated movie was released this past week, so that means we get a look at the NEXT big animated release. And it’s one that’s been talked about for a while.
The Judas Contract is one of the seminal titles for Teen Titans and there has been talk of adapting this into one of the DC Animated movies as far back as 2007. And now it’s finally happening.
Of course, it’s not a straight adaptation. None of the DC Animated films have been. It’s made pretty obvious here with the inclusion of Robin (Damian Wayne) AND Nightwing (Dick Grayson), not to mention the Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle. But that’s OK, these movies seem to have their own internal continuity. It shouldn’t really affect the plot all that much.
If you’re familiar with the story, you know where the movie will be headed. I’ll be interested in seeing whether they ignore some of the more controversial aspects of The Judas Contract – and the relationship between the Terra character and main villain Deathstroke in particular – I assume they will, because it’s a much different time than it was when the story was originally written. But then again, look at what they did with Batman: The Killing Joke.
Teen Titans: The Judas Contract will be released to DVD and Blu-Ray later this year.
