Comic book characters are all over television, with Marvel’s Netflix shows, the Arrowverse on The CW, Gotham and Lucifer on Fox and Agents of SHIELD on ABC, just to name a few. That universe is about to expand next month. And we’re Powerless to stop it…
Well, maybe not. Not watching the show should put it under pretty quick.
The new NBC comedy Powerless takes place in Wayne Security, a subsidiary of Wayne Enterprises, where they’re trying to protect the world from collateral damage caused by super-powered fights.
This show is probably going to be terrible. If I had to place a wager, I’d put it on “Worse than the current DC Cinematic Universe.” Maybe the show will surprise me and it will be a fun romp with little in-jokes and references to the D-List heroes and villains throughout the DC Comics universe. We already got a glimpse of a Starro getting blown up in the trailer, plus Crimson Fox will be a regular character.
But the jokes in the trailer were a bit hackneyed, especially the opening, “It’s a bird… It’s a plane…” and the Wonder Woman Invisible Plane set. I’m going to guess that we don’t have a writing team putting forward their best efforts.
Powerless debuts on NBC on Feb. 2 and I expect it to be cancelled shortly after that.
