As we finish off the month of April, there’s no better way to enjoy the start of warmer weather than with comic books new and old!
It’s a light week for new comics, but there are definitely things I’m excited to read. Most notably, the latest issue of Action Comics, which begins the “Warworld Rising” story. The second issue of Stephanie Phillips’ Harley Quinn should also be a great read.
And in yet another example of me surprisingly buying a new comic book series starring a character I don’t really like, we have the first issue of Robin, featuring Damian Wayne. Seriously, I have never been a fan of the Damian Wayne character (likely because I started reading comics with Tim Drake as Robin), but there’s something that’s been teased in this issue that made it can’t miss: an appearance from former replacement Green Arrow and Morrison JLA member Connor Hawke!
I’m willing to bet he’s no longer Oliver Queen’s son in the INFINITE FRONTIER continuity, unless they’re de-aging him to be close to Damian Wayne’s age.
As always, I’m buying my comics digitally, through Comixology. Most of the week’s new books are listed over at the PreviewsWorld website, though DC Comics’ new releases can be found on their own website. Let’s take a look at what I’ll be reading this week.
DC Comics
Action Comics 1030
Batman/Superman 17
Harley Quinn 2
Robin 1
DC Digital Comics
Challenge of the Super-Sons 14
Image Comics
Department of Truth 8
Outside of this week’s new comic books, on Friday, we’re going to be taking a deep dive into the classic DC Comics ELSEWORLDS story Kingdom Come in honor of the 25th anniversary of the book’s release. The creative team of Mark Waid and Alex Ross created a story that resonated with many and had wild repercussions for the main DC Universe continuity for years to come.
You can also expect a return of the SONG OF THE WEEK! Joe took last week off after getting his second vaccine dose – hope you’re feeling better, Joe! – but he’ll be back this weekend with new music to enjoy!
What are you looking forward to this week? Let us know in the comments!
