We may be geeks, but that doesn’t mean we don’t know how to create great things in the kitchen. Some of the best dishes can be made quickly and easily as long as you know what you’re doing. Let’s get cooking!
I’ve finally decided to make something that doesn’t include BUFFALO CHICKEN! There may be something wrong with me. But this is still pretty good, and can have a good kick to it, depending on how you prepare it.
Usually, when I make a recipe for the first time, I go off a recipe to ensure that I have a good pathway toward a delicious dinner. But I’ve seen sausage and pepper heroes made so often, I’m pretty sure I can do it in my sleep. And it can be a pretty easy meal to bring to delicious levels.
First things first, chop up an onion and a pepper per hero you’re going to make. Making dinner for myself and my wife (with a little bit made for the 20-month-old), I chopped up two a piece.
Heat up olive oil in a pan and drop some sausage – two links per sandwich – in to get things started. Once the sausage starts to get a little brown, drop the green peppers and onions into the pan and cover, stirring occasionally. Season the pan however you like – garlic, oregano, cayenne pepper, crushed red peppers, they all add flavor to the meal. Cook in the pan until the sausage is nice and brown and the peppers and onions are soft.
While the contents of the pan cook, prepare the sub rolls. Once they’ve been sliced, put in pieces of cheese across the bottom of the roll. We used pepperjack here. Place the cooked sausage on top of the cheese in the roll once it’s cooked, and the cheese will melt right into everything. Top the sausage with the peppers and onions and add some fries to the side and you’ve got a tasty and filling meal.
