There’s so much to look forward to in the coming weeks and months, and every trailer that drops is another tease, whetting our appetite for more. Throughout the day, we’ll be posting thoughts about new trailers that have been released over the last few days, starting with Injustice 2.
The sequel to the ridiculously successful Injustice: Gods Among Us looks like it’s going to get even bigger than the original when it comes out later this year. We’ve already seen announcements of new characters Supergirl, Blue Beetle, Deadshot, Gorilla Grodd and Red Lantern Atrocitus joining established characters Superman, Batman, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Harley Quinn. But the trailer here gives us an idea of who the game’s BIG BAD is – my favorite Superman villain, Brainiac, seems to be pulling the strings!
It looks like the story of the game will be the evil Superman who was imprisoned at the end of the first game will get out, and his cousin Kara – possibly being influenced by Brainiac – will join him. We’ll have to see what the actual story is, but there should be lots of reasons for superheroes and villains to beat the hell out of each other.
The alien artificial intelligence who collects civilizations is a great addition to the game, and I suspect the fighter would be using psionics to keep enemies at bay until he’s ready to take his opponent out with his commanding size.
The other big reveal with the Injustice trailer is the pre-order bonus in the final scene: Darkseid, the evil despot of Apokalips and a character that many were hoping would be a special character for the first game. We only got a brief glimpse of him in a transition scene in the first game, so getting to play as the massive character should be fun, especially when you put him up against other big fighters like Grodd or Atrocitus.
The teaser also gives glimpses of Bane and Poison Ivy – because Batman villains are really under-represented in video games, you know? They could be two of the 20 or so characters that will still be revealed (which, according to the Injustice 2 website, will likely and unsurprisingly include Green Lantern)? Or maybe the nine DLC characters they promise with the ultimate edition?
Either way, it looks like we’ll have more than 40 DC Comics characters to play with when all is said and done. The game looks great and I can’t wait to get it when it comes out on May 16!
