There’s no theme to the books I read last night on the train, I literally did “Eeny Meeny Miny Moe” to choose. So today we have Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps and Wacky Raceland.
Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps 3

I assume at some point Hal Jordan will actually rejoin the Green Lantern Corps that is right there in the title of the book. But three issues in to this ridiculously decompressed story, Jordan is still separated from his companions. In fact, we don’t get a lot of story movement with John Stewart and the rest of the newly-returned Corps, except that we don’t know where they are, they don’t know where they are and they don’t know where Guy Gardener is right now, after going off on a recon mission last issue.
The rest of the issue is spent with Jordan battling the overwhelming force of the Sinestro Corps while Sinestro negotiates a deal with an administrator over the use of a Fear Machine, which we are likely to see in action next issue.
I really am hoping that the book starts to pick up once Jordan and the Corps are reunited, because I continue to be disappointed with how things have been going with the GLC for a while now. The creation of all the different Spectrum Corps’ have led to a stagnation for all the books. Instead of a force of space cops going and fighting crime in various parts of the universe, we go from story to story with the different ringslingers fighting each other.
That gets really boring. And boring is the nicest thing I can say about the Green Lantern books now.
Wacky Raceland 3

While I was reading this book on the subway last night, a guy tapped me on the shoulder and asked me about what I was reading. He was a comic book fan, too, and had heard about Wacky Raceland and the new Hanna-Barbera books, but hadn’t checked them out yet.
Our discussion went from what DC Comics is doing with Superman and Batman to Archie Comics’ new revamp and the success of Afterlife with Archie to my issues with Brian K. Vaughn to how The Walking Dead comic improved once it passed issue 100. It was a very pleasant conversation with a stranger who had a similar interest. And really, it was a very welcome distraction from what is clearly the worst if the new Hanna-Barbera books.
I honestly don’t know why I’m still reading. It’s only been three issues? Geez.
The third issue sees Dick Dastardly and Penelope stranded away from the other racers, the other racers get ambushed by weird creatures and debate whether they should rescue the other two and we get a possible origin story for Penelope.
Ho hum.
