Two words: organ solo.
It’s been a hot minute since Jack White put out a new album. But after four years away, he’s back with “Connected By Love,” the first single from Boarding House Reach. After The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather and two solo albums, where else is there for him to go? On this song at least, he heads to church.
The song finds White emoting over a bluesy synthesizer melody. As the music builds, he’s joined in the instant singalong chorus by a gospel choir. But the segment that will stick with you most is the organ solo he shreds out. It’s an absolute barnstormer moment. Even less than 20 days into 2018, I doubt you’ll hear another use of organ this year that comes close. That is, unless White has an even better one in store elsewhere on this album!
