After a minor, holiday-related delay, we’re back with the latest Song of the Week!
This week’s selection is the latest single by U.S. Girls, the long-running music project by Meg Remy. Unlike her earlier work that relied on samples, “Velvet 4 Sale” was created with a live band. The result is a smooth, slinky song with a 70s funk, disco vibe. Synth lines waver alongside touches of horns and Remy’s low-key vocals. Plus, there’s a fuzzed-out guitar solo that stands out in all the right ways.
This groovy, mid-tempo tune tells the tale of a revenge fantasy against abusers. Like most of U.S. Girls’ work, it’s a catchy, powerful track that doesn’t shy away from politics.
